Gov Okpebholo Celebrates Former Edo Governor Lucky Igbinedion at 69
Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has congratulated former Governor of the state, Chief Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion, on his 69th birthday, describing him as a significant figure in Edo State’s political and democratic journey.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Governor Okpebholo commended Igbinedion for his years of public service and contributions to governance during Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999.
“On behalf of the government and people of Edo State, I congratulate our former governor, Chief Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion, on the occasion of his 69th birthday,” the governor stated.
Chief Igbinedion served as Governor of Edo State from 1999 to 2007 and was the first civilian governor of the state in the Fourth Republic.
Governor Okpebholo noted that the Igbinedion administration recorded achievements in education, infrastructure, economic development and governance during its tenure.
He highlighted the establishment of Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, as part of efforts to advance technical and vocational education, alongside road construction projects and housing schemes in Benin City targeted at civil servants and security personnel.
The governor also acknowledged Igbinedion’s role as former Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, where he collaborated with other state governors on national and regional issues.
According to Governor Okpebholo, Edo State continues to benefit from the contributions and legacies of its past leaders.
“Today, we honour Chief Lucky Igbinedion as a former governor and a proud Edo son who dedicated years to public service. We wish him good health, long life and continued relevance,” he added.
The governor further prayed for continued strength, peace and wellbeing for the former governor and his family.
