The ADC Voice Worldwide has called on Nigerian politicians and political actors to place the interest of the country above personal and partisan considerations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The organisation made the call while reacting to a reported statement by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, that he would be the “first casualty” should President Bola Ahmed Tinubu lose the 2027 presidential election.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Hon. (Dr.) Abdul-Malik Rabiu Jaafar, FMNES, FCILRM, the group said Nigeria was bigger than any individual politician, political party or electoral contest.

According to the statement, the 2027 election should not be portrayed as a struggle for the political survival of individuals, stressing that democratic elections are fundamentally about allowing citizens to freely determine who governs them.

“Governments come and go, but institutions, justice and the Nigerian state must endure,” the organisation stated.

It further argued that electoral defeat should not be interpreted as persecution, noting that losing an election was neither a crime nor justification for political victimisation.

“No politician should be a ‘casualty’ merely because Nigerians exercise their constitutional right to choose their leaders,” the statement said.

The organisation maintained that the more important issue ahead of 2027 should be the question of accountability to Nigerians rather than which political actor would emerge victorious or suffer political consequences.

It urged political leaders to focus their campaigns and policies on competence, integrity, justice, accountability and respect for democratic institutions.

The group also warned against creating an atmosphere of fear around the 2027 elections, saying political competition should not be allowed to undermine national unity or the stability of the Nigerian state.

According to ADC Voice Worldwide, Nigeria belongs to all its citizens and not exclusively to politicians or political parties.

“The real question is not who will become a casualty, but who will be accountable to the Nigerian people?” the statement queried.

The organisation therefore called on Nigerians to approach the 2027 elections as an opportunity to demand responsible leadership and strengthen democratic institutions rather than as a battle between political factions for survival.
