Okpebholo Promises Reconstruction of Mechanic, Peanut Roads to Ease Sapele Road Traffic

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has announced plans by his administration to reconstruct the Mechanic and Peanut roads in Benin City as part of efforts to decongest the persistent traffic gridlock along the Sapele Road corridor.

The governor disclosed this during a church service, where he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for residents across the state.

According to him, officials of the Ministry of Works will carry out an assessment of the roads before the commencement of reconstruction work, noting that his government remains determined to provide durable and motorable roads throughout Edo State.

Okpebholo said his administration is also making significant strides in tackling insecurity, particularly cult-related activities, which he said have been substantially curtailed.

“Today, we are no longer living in fear of cultism in Edo State. Our administration is working tirelessly to eliminate the menace and ensure a safe and conducive environment for all residents,” he said.

The governor expressed gratitude to Pastor Charles Osazuwa for his prayers and support, recalling that the cleric had predicted his victory in the governorship election.

“I came here before the election to share my ambition of becoming governor, and Pastor Osazuwa encouraged me to go ahead, assuring me that I would win. Many doubted it, but today, by the grace of God, I am governor, and we are working hard to transform Edo State for the benefit of our people,” he stated.

Responding to a request by Pastor Osazuwa for the institution of a state thanksgiving programme, Governor Okpebholo approved not just a single day but a three-day thanksgiving and praise event for the state.

“Edo State is a Christian state, and God has been faithful to us. Therefore, I am approving a three-day thanksgiving and praise programme to appreciate God for His goodness and mercy upon our state,” the governor declared.

He further assured residents that the reconstruction of the Mechanic and Peanut roads, extending to the bypass, would be executed, describing the project as a priority intervention.

“Peanut Road and Mechanic Road leading to the bypass will be constructed. Consider the roads done,” he added.

Earlier in his sermon titled ‘The Force of Expectation’, Pastor Charles Osazuwa urged Nigerians to maintain faith in God and remain hopeful about the future of the country despite prevailing challenges.

Drawing lessons from Jeremiah 20:11, Genesis 2:7 and Genesis 18:14, the cleric expressed confidence that Nigeria would overcome its socio-economic and security challenges.

Pastor Osazuwa appealed to the governor to rehabilitate the Mechanic and Peanut roads, describing them as strategic routes capable of easing traffic congestion along Sapele Road.

He also called for the establishment of an annual thanksgiving day for Edo State, urging that the initiative be sustained by future administrations.

Governor Okpebholo also attended a worship service at Winners Chapel Church on Sapele Road as part of his engagements for the day.
