Okpebholo Pledges Support for Family of Late ITV Correspondent

Governor Monday Okpebholo has assured the family of late Independent Television and Radio correspondent, Kingsley Uchegbu, of government support following his death after a brief illness.

The governor gave the assurance during a condolence visit to the widow, Mrs. Chineyeamara Uchegbu, at the family residence in Benin City.

The delegation, led by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Yakubu Musa, conveyed the governor’s condolences to the bereaved family.

Speaking during the visit, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Kassim Afegbua, said the state government would stand by the family and provide necessary support.

“Madam, we are here on behalf of the governor to assure you that you and your children will not be left alone in this difficult moment. The government will support the family and provide succour,” he said.

Afegbua described the late Kingsley Uchegbu as a dedicated, humble and committed professional who served diligently despite the challenges associated with his work.

“We are consoled by the fact that nobody here can speak ill of Kingsley. He was dedicated, committed, humble and lived a simple life. The distance he travelled daily to work reflected his resilience and devotion to duty,” he added.

He encouraged the widow to remain strong for her children, noting that they would continue the legacy their father left behind.

Speaking on behalf of the family, church elder at Winners Chapel, Dr. Magnus Oshiogwe, appreciated the Edo State Government for the condolence visit and appealed for continued support for the family.

“Whatever the government can do to support this family will go a long way in easing their pains. We appreciate the governor for showing compassion and concern,” he said.

Oshiogwe described the late journalist as a committed church member whose death had deeply affected both his family and church community.

Until his death on Wednesday, May 7, 2026, Kingsley Uchegbu was a staff member of Independent Television and Radio attached to the Government House Press Corps.

He is survived by his wife, children and aged mother.

Members of the delegation included Commissioner for Special Duties, Ken Ihensenkhien; Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Patrick Akhere Ebojele; Special Adviser on Electronic Media, Paul Ezenwa; and members of the Government House Press Corps.
