WORLD TUBERCULOSIS DAY: Eribo Urges Collective Action to End TB in Egor
Uselu-The Executive Chairman of Egor Local Government Council, Hon. Osaro Osa Eribo, has called for intensified efforts to combat tuberculosis (TB), describing the disease as a major public health concern that requires collective action from government, communities, and healthcare stakeholders.
In a statement issued to mark World Tuberculosis Day, Eribo joined the global community in raising awareness about the disease and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ending what he described as a preventable and curable illness.
He noted that tuberculosis remains prevalent, particularly in developing communities where access to timely diagnosis and treatment is often limited. According to him, the disease goes beyond a medical challenge, as it is closely linked to socio-economic factors such as poverty, malnutrition, and inadequate healthcare access.
The council boss emphasized that his administration is prioritizing the strengthening of primary healthcare systems in Egor Local Government, with a focus on early detection and improved access to quality medical services for residents.
He also urged citizens to take advantage of available healthcare services and seek prompt medical attention when experiencing symptoms such as persistent cough, unexplained weight loss, or prolonged fever. Eribo further cautioned against stigmatizing individuals affected by tuberculosis, stressing that such attitudes hinder efforts to control the disease.
Calling for broader collaboration, he appealed to community leaders, healthcare professionals, and relevant stakeholders to intensify advocacy and support ongoing awareness campaigns aimed at eliminating tuberculosis.
Eribo expressed optimism that with sustained commitment and collective responsibility, Egor Local Government can overcome the burden of tuberculosis and achieve a healthier society.
