Residents Applaud Okpebholo as Charismatic Road Nears Completion
Residents of Charismatic Road, off Ekhenwan Road in Benin City, have commended Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, for the near completion of the long-anticipated road project, describing it as a major relief from years of flooding and poor access.
The residents, who turned out in large numbers on Sunday evening, expressed their appreciation during the governor’s inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects across Edo South Senatorial District.
Charismatic Road is currently about 90 per cent completed. While the first section has been constructed with reinforced concrete, the remaining stretch has been asphalted. Drainage infrastructure has also been fully installed, including two water retention ponds strategically positioned on both sides of the road to address flooding concerns.
Speaking with journalists, residents highlighted the transformation of the area, particularly its resilience during recent rainfall.
A community leader, Chief Joseph Amadasun, who relocated from Lagos four years ago, likened the governor’s infrastructure drive to that of former Lagos State Governor, Lateef Jakande.
“I moved here from Lagos, and this area used to be a major flood zone. After the recent rains, no homes were flooded, and the road remained completely dry. This is solid work. I can only compare Okpebholo to Baba Kekere. He is doing very well, and we appreciate his efforts,” he said.
Another resident, Aliyu, noted that the intervention has significantly improved living conditions.
“I’ve lived here for seven years, and this road was always in terrible condition during the rainy season. What we see now is a complete turnaround. We are grateful for this development,” he said.
Mrs. Enoch also expressed satisfaction with the quality of work, stating that the road has become accessible even after heavy rainfall.
“Before now, movement here after rain was nearly impossible. Today, there is no water on the road, and the concrete sections show durability. We are very thankful to the governor,” she said.
As part of the inspection tour, Governor Okpebholo also visited Sapele Road to assess ongoing construction work. He made a brief stop at the Christ Embassy Camp Ground, where he reviewed the quality of drainage installations in the area.
The inspection forms part of the administration’s broader effort to ensure quality delivery of infrastructure projects across the state.
