Okpebholo Inspects New Edo Central Road Corridors, Targets Connectivity for 15 Communities
Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on Sunday inspected proposed road corridors in Edo Central as part of the second phase of his administration’s infrastructure expansion drive aimed at boosting rural connectivity and economic growth.
The roads earmarked for construction include the Amedokhian–Iruele–Awo Road and the Unewa–Ohe–Uzea–Awo Road, spanning parts of Esan North-East and Esan Central local government areas.
The inspection marks the commencement of a new phase of road development in the region, following the completion of the first phase within the axis.

Addressing journalists during the exercise, Governor Okpebholo said the initiative is designed to consolidate gains recorded in the initial phase while extending access to more communities.
“The first section has been completed, and this is the second phase. From here, we are extending the road to Awo, where the railway station is located. The stretch is about 26 kilometres, and by the time it is completed, it will link several neighbouring communities,” he said.
The governor noted that the project would significantly improve mobility and stimulate economic activities, particularly in agrarian communities. According to him, the new road network is expected to connect over 15 communities in the area.
“We are linking more than 15 communities to open up the area and make movement easier for residents and farmers,” he added.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser on Projects Implementation and Monitoring, Engr. Williams-Bello Phoebe, said the project is strategically designed to enhance rural access and support agricultural productivity.
She explained that the road network would connect communities to the railway line at Ohe and improve access to government-owned farms in the area.
“This project will open up the area and improve transportation for farmers and residents. It is part of a broader plan to link rural communities to urban centres and critical infrastructure,” she said.
Phoebe further disclosed that preliminary assessments have commenced, with contractors already on ground to scope the project.
“The area is largely undeveloped but holds great potential. Contractors have begun preliminary work, and we are committed to ensuring speedy execution,” she assured.
The inspection underscores the administration’s ongoing commitment to infrastructure development as a catalyst for rural-urban integration and economic advancement in Edo State.
