Residents of Ogba-Evbuodia, Uholor and Irhue-Obagie communities in Oredo Local Government Area have commended Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for ongoing road infrastructure projects that they say are transforming the socio-economic landscape of the area.
The residents described the intervention as a long-awaited relief from years of neglect, noting that the improved road network has enhanced mobility, boosted commercial activities and restored investor confidence.
The road projects, executed under Governor Okpebholo’s SHINE Agenda, include the construction of the Ogba-Evbuodia–Evbuobioba road with a spur to Irhue-Obagie, linking Upper Ekenwan Road. The ongoing Upper Airport Road project is also expected to open up several adjoining communities and estates upon completion.
Speaking on the development, Mr. Moses Odeo, a commercial motorcyclist in Uholor, said the project has significantly eased transportation challenges in the area.
“Before now, the road was muddy and almost impassable during the rainy season. Movement was difficult and business activities suffered. Since construction began, travel time has reduced and commercial activities have improved,” he said, commending the contractor for what he described as quality workmanship.
A landlord in Evbuobioba community, Mr. Edward Okunzuwa, recalled that the road was previously not motorable, making the transportation of agricultural produce a daunting task.
“This project has restored hope to residents. It will improve economic activities and enhance security when completed,” he stated.
An estate agent, Nurudeen Ekhorutomwen, also praised the state government, noting that the road connects emerging estates and several communities in the axis.
“We appreciate Governor Okpebholo for this quality road. It will stimulate development and increase property value in the area,” he said.
Providing an update on the project, the Team Lead of Gladtrico International Ltd and contractor handling the Iyekogba axis, Engr. Tamiyu Ibrahim, said significant progress has been recorded.
According to him, the project spans from Ogba River to Uholor, with a spur to Evbuobioba linking Ekenwan Road.
“We have completed most of the concrete works and are currently working on earthworks and pavement. Stone base is being laid, after which asphalt work will commence,” he explained.
He added that about seven kilometres of line drainage and multiple ring covers have been constructed to channel floodwater from the communities into the river, addressing perennial flooding concerns in the area.
Residents expressed optimism that the completion of the road network would further accelerate growth and development across the benefiting communities in Oredo Local Government Area.
