A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Worldwide Diaspora, Hon. (Dr.) Abdul-Malik Rabiu Jaafar, has condemned the reported attack on former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, describing the incident as a grave threat to Nigeria’s democratic foundations.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, February 25, 2026, Jaafar denounced what he termed “violence, intimidation and political thuggery,” stressing that such actions have no place in a democratic society.
According to him, an attack on any political figure, regardless of party affiliation, amounts to an assault on democratic values and the constitutional rights of citizens. He maintained that democracy guarantees the freedom to associate, campaign and express political preferences without fear of harassment or violence.
Jaafar warned that acts of aggression capable of destabilising the political environment undermine national unity and pose significant risks to the country’s future.
He called on security agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that perpetrators are identified and brought to justice. He emphasised that no individual or group should be allowed to disrupt peace and order in pursuit of political interests.
The ADC stalwart further urged political leaders and citizens to rise above partisan divisions and work collectively to safeguard the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic process.
Reaffirming his commitment to peaceful political engagement, Jaafar stated that Nigeria must continue to advance in unity, peace and mutual respect.
