Okpebholo Calls for Unity in Edo and Nigeria as Ramadan, Lent Begin Simultaneously
The Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has described the simultaneous commencement of Ramadan and the Lenten season as a profound spiritual moment and a call for national unity.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Patrick Akhere Ebojele, the governor noted that the rare convergence of the Islamic and Christian holy seasons presents a significant opportunity for collective reflection, reconciliation and renewed commitment to shared values.
Okpebholo said the coincidence of Ramadan, observed by the Muslim Ummah, and Lent, marked by Christians worldwide, underscores the need for Nigerians to embrace faith, sacrifice, love and peaceful coexistence.
He urged Muslims and Christians in the state to use the solemn period of fasting and prayer to seek divine intervention in the affairs of the state and the country at large.
“This is a profound spiritual moment for our nation. As Muslims fast and Christians observe Lent, I encourage all faithful to lift Nigeria before God in prayer and supplication. Let us seek divine guidance to overcome our challenges and build a more united, prosperous and peaceful country,” the governor stated.
The governor specifically called for prayers for national unity, economic stability, improved security and lasting peace across Nigeria.
He also extended his goodwill to the Muslim faithful for a spiritually fulfilling Ramadan and wished Christians a reflective and grace-filled Lenten season, expressing hope that the period would usher in blessings, strength and renewed hope for families across Edo State and beyond.
