President Tinubu Appoints New Service Chiefs

Abuja-President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a major shake-up in Nigeria’s military leadership as part of his administration’s renewed effort to strengthen the nation’s security architecture.

In a statement released on Friday, the President approved the appointment of General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa.

Other top appointments include:

Major-General W. Shaibu — Chief of Army Staff

Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke — Chief of Air Staff

Rear Admiral I. Abbas — Chief of Naval Staff

Meanwhile, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retains his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.

President Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, expressed profound appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs for what he described as their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership.”

He charged the newly appointed officers to justify the confidence reposed in them and to “further enhance the professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”

The statement, signed by Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, confirmed that all appointments take immediate effect.
