Edo Government Announces 14-Day Mid-Year Fasting, Prayer for Peace and Progress
The Edo State Government has announced a 14-day mid-year fasting and prayer programme aimed at seeking God’s continued peace, protection and progress for the state.
The announcement was made by the Chaplain of the Government House Chapel and Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Matters, Apostle (Dr.) Sule Faraday Azekhumen, who called on Christian faithful, religious leaders and residents of the state to participate in the spiritual exercise.
According to the statement, the fasting and prayer session will commence on Monday, June 1, and end on Sunday, June 14, 2026, with participants expected to observe the exercise daily from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Apostle Azekhumen said the programme is designed to seek divine intervention for the continuous peace, protection and development of Edo State, noting that Governor Monday Okpebholo will join other participants in the prayer initiative.
He urged all religious bodies, clergy and religiously conscious residents, irrespective of denomination, to take part in the exercise and pray for the prosperity of the state.
The cleric further encouraged those who are physically able to undertake a sectional dry fast throughout the 14-day period, while advising individuals with health challenges to participate according to their strength and capacity.
He expressed optimism that the collective prayers of the people would contribute significantly to sustaining peace, security and progress across Edo State.
The prayer programme will be coordinated through the Government House Chapel in Benin City.
