As the September 21st is tomorrow, Edo State gubernatorial election holds, the stakes are high. The choices citizens make on that day will determine the trajectory of the state’s development for years to come. At this critical juncture, Edo State deserves a leader committed to lifting every segment of society—not just a select few—towards collective greatness.

Edo State is blessed with a rich history, cultural diversity, and significant natural resources. However, despite its potential, the state has struggled with challenges that have hindered its growth, including infrastructure deficits, high unemployment, and inadequate social services. To overcome these challenges, the next governor must be one who embodies inclusivity, equity, and a vision that resonates with all citizens—regardless of their background, social status, or ethnic group.

The next true leader must see the diverse population of Edo State as its greatest asset. From the bustling markets of Benin City to the agricultural communities in the rural areas, every voice and every sector matters. The candidate elected must prioritize policies that include the youth, who make up a significant portion of the population, ensuring they have access to quality education, jobs, and entrepreneurial opportunities. At the same time, women, often the backbone of informal economies, must be empowered with equal access to resources, capital, and positions of leadership.

Additionally, Edo State’s infrastructure needs must be addressed comprehensively. Roads, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions in all the districts require urgent attention. But it’s not just about building; it’s about maintaining and ensuring that these services are available to every citizen, no matter their location. A governor who prioritizes infrastructure development with a focus on inclusivity will ensure that even the most remote areas of the state experience growth and transformation.

Furthermore, fostering a culture of transparency and accountability in governance is essential. Citizens have long been weary of leaders who fail to deliver on promises or misuse public funds. The next governor must not only promise change but demonstrate a strong commitment to fighting corruption and ensuring that resources are allocated equitably.

Edo State’s economy can only thrive when its governance is centered on collaboration between the private and public sectors. A forward-thinking leader will recognize the need to attract investments that will create jobs and build industries that tap into Edo’s abundant human capital. From tourism to agriculture, to technology, there is immense potential for growth—if managed wisely and inclusively.

Finally, the upcoming election offers the people of Edo State a unique opportunity to choose a leader who will include all citizens in the vision for a prosperous future. This is not the time for division, for playing politics as usual, or for leaders who only cater to a select few. Edo State must choose a leader who will govern with fairness, justice, and a genuine commitment to uplifting everyone. The future of Edo State lies in the hands of its voters, and the choice is clear: choose a candidate who will build a state that works for all.
