Edo Poll: The Man Olumide Akpata, A Legal Prodigy and LP’s Candidate In Edo

As the race for the 2024 gubernatorial elections in Edo State take place today 21 September, one candidate is drawing considerable attention and his name is Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata.

He is the former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and now is now the flagbearer of Labour Party in the Edo State Gubernitorial . He enters the political arena with an impressive legal career and a strong commitment to driving change.

Olumide Akpata is a prominent lawyer who served as President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) from 2020 to 2022. His leadership was marked by significant reforms and a dedicated focus on enhancing the welfare of lawyers across Nigeria.

Akpata holds a law degree from the University of Benin and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1993. He began his legal journey at Templars, one of Nigeria’s leading commercial law firms, where he rose through the ranks to become a senior partner.

In February 2024, Akpata secured the Labour Party’s ticket as their governorship candidate for Edo State. He won the primary election convincingly, garnering 316 out of 340 votes, a testament to his popularity and his party’s confidence in his leadership abilities.

Akpata has been vocal in criticising his political rivals, recently calling out the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates for their absence from a scheduled debate.
