USELU— The Operation Clean Egor (OCE) initiative of the Egor Local Government Council has intensified, with sanitation officials carrying out the desilting and clearing of blocked drainage channels along Okhoro Road in Benin City.

The exercise, being implemented under the leadership of the Executive Chairman of Egor Local Government Council, Rt. Hon. Osaro Osa Eribo, is aimed at improving drainage flow, enhancing environmental sanitation and keeping major roads and communities within the council area clean.

Speaking during the exercise, the Director of Sanitation Services, Egor Local Government Council, Sanitarian Helen O. Okunrobo, said the desilting of the Okhoro Road drains formed part of the council’s sustained sanitation programme.

According to her, the initiative has already covered several locations across the local government area, including Uwasota Road, Textile Mill Road, Good Samaritan Road and Etinosa Primary School Road, while other areas are scheduled to benefit from the ongoing exercise.

Okunrobo stressed that sanitation remained a priority of the Eribo administration, noting that Operation Clean Egor was designed as a continuous intervention rather than a one-off exercise.

Residents and road users who witnessed the exercise commended the council for the intervention, describing the clearing of blocked drainage channels as necessary for preventing flooding and maintaining a healthier environment.

They also acknowledged the efforts of the Edo State Government under Governor Monday Okpebholo in improving sanitation and infrastructure across the state.

The council, however, appealed to residents to support the initiative by keeping drainage channels free of refuse, disposing of waste properly and avoiding indiscriminate dumping.

The council said it remained committed to achieving a cleaner, healthier and better-maintained Egor Local Government Area through sustained environmental sanitation and community participation.
