Peter Obi Advocates for Dialogue And Diplomacy In Nigerien Crisis

By Paul Okojie

Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential flag bearer of the Labour Party who is contesting the legitimacy of the February 25th, 2023 election in court, has added his voice to that of millions of Nigerians who have been asking the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu lead administration not to use force against the Nigerien Military Junta.

Obi on his verified twitter handle, twitted and express his concerns about the unfolding events in Niger Republic which he clearly stated has drawn international attention. He further stressed that this development is a matter of dire and urgent national interest and security.

He also stated that Niger is a hot-button issue for ECOWAS, as well as various international interlocutors. Regardless of the positions taken by various parties that have direct or tangential interests in Niger, he advised that dialogue and diplomacy towards the resolution should be taken with minimal disruptive impact on Nigeria and the West African Sub-region.

Mr. Peter Obi however, admitted to adding his voice to well-meaning Nigerians who have advocated that any intervention in the Nigerien Crisis should be per-eminently through diplomatic dialogue interest in the crisis.

And he also called on the international community work on concerted effort of multilateral coalition of Nigeria, ECOWAS, and the United Nations (UN) towards a programmed return to a democratic constitutional order. In the process, that Nigeria’s leadership role must not be in doubt.
