Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on Thursday commissioned a network of internal roads constructed by the Niger Delta Development Commission at Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, describing the project as a critical investment in education and regional development.

Speaking at the ceremony held within the institution’s campus in Usen, Governor Okpebholo said the project goes beyond physical infrastructure, noting that it represents improved access, enhanced security, and greater opportunity for thousands of students and staff.

“This project is more than asphalt and concrete; it is access, connectivity, safety, and opportunity,” the governor stated. “Road infrastructure within educational institutions is not a luxury; it is a necessity.”

He explained that well-constructed internal roads would improve mobility across the campus, strengthen security architecture, and create an enabling environment for academic excellence to flourish.

The governor commended the leadership of the NDDC for what he described as a clear and strategic vision that prioritises education, infrastructure, and human capital development as pillars of sustainable growth in the Niger Delta region.

According to him, the intervention reflects practical governance that citizens can see and directly benefit from, adding that investing in educational infrastructure is synonymous with investing in the economic future of the region.

Addressing students of the institution, Okpebholo linked the project to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging them to reciprocate government’s commitment with discipline, focus, and academic excellence.

“Let this development remind you that the Renewed Hope Agenda is working. You must in turn match this investment with discipline, focus, and excellence,” he said.

The governor reaffirmed Edo State Government’s readiness to collaborate with federal agencies and development partners to attract and execute projects that improve living standards and accelerate socio-economic growth across communities in the state.

He formally declared the road network commissioned, expressing optimism that the project would serve generations of students and contribute meaningfully to the long-term development of Edo State and the Niger Delta region.

“May this project serve generations to come. God bless Edo State, the Niger Delta, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he concluded.
