Benin City, Edo State A wave of controversy has rippled across Edo State following a viral video in which Mr. Emmanuel Agbogun accused the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Dennis Idahosa, of being affiliated with secret cult groups. The video, which surfaced on social media, alleged that the Deputy Governor, along with other prominent citizens, were members of various cults operating within the state.

In swift response, the Deputy Governor released an official statement strongly denying the allegations, describing them as “spurious, defamatory, malicious, unfounded, and grossly misleading.” He asserted that the claims were part of a calculated attempt to tarnish his reputation and distract the administration from its ongoing battle against cultism and related vices.

“I vehemently deny any involvement, both past or present, in cult-related activities,” Idahosa stated. “As a public servant, I have always upheld the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability.”

Calling the accusations a “direct attack” on his character, Idahosa declared his intention to seek legal redress. “I will not treat it lightly,” he said, adding that he would pursue all legal avenues to ensure that defamation is addressed within the full extent of the law.

Reaffirming the government’s position, Idahosa emphasized the administration’s zero-tolerance policy on cultism. He described cult activities as a serious threat to community development and public safety, vowing continued efforts to eliminate the menace.

To remove any ambiguity, the Deputy Governor closed his statement by reaffirming his personal values: “For the avoidance of doubt, I am not, and have never been, a member of any secret cult. I am a Christian and a steadfast believer in the teachings of Jesus Christ.”

He urged the citizens of Edo State to remain vigilant and to continue supporting the state’s efforts in promoting peace, justice, and sustainable development.
