Edo State Government Reintroduces Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise

Benin City-In a move aimed at promoting public hygiene and environmental sustainability, the Edo State Government has officially announced the reintroduction of the Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise. The initiative, approved by Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo, is scheduled to commence on Saturday, April 26, 2025, and will take place on the last Saturday of every month between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.

According to a statement signed by Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq., Secretary to the State Government, the sanitation exercise is part of the Governor’s commitment to fostering a cleaner and healthier living environment for the people of Edo State.

The announcement emphasizes that during the sanitation hours, human and vehicular movements will be strictly restricted, except for officers on essential duties. This measure is intended to ensure full participation by residents across the state and to facilitate uninterrupted cleanup efforts in both public and private spaces.

“The reintroduction of the exercise is premised on His Excellency’s commitment to ensure a healthier and cleaner environment for the good people of Edo State,” the statement read.

The government is calling on all citizens to comply with the directive and participate actively in the exercise to enhance the environmental standard of their communities.
