Kidnappers Under Siege as Edo Deepens Military Alliance — Okpebholo Intensifies Security Offensive

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has reiterated his administration’s strategic collaboration with the Nigerian Army in tackling kidnapping and other criminal activities across the state.

The governor gave the assurance while receiving the Commander of the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport, Major General Nansak Danjuma Shagaya, and other senior officers during a courtesy visit to Government House in Benin City.

Okpebholo said the partnership between the Edo State Government and security agencies, particularly the Army, is already yielding measurable gains in the fight against insecurity.

He specifically commended the operational synergy with the 4 Brigade, noting that sustained military operations, including extended forest patrols, have significantly disrupted kidnapping networks.

“Our collaboration with the 4 Brigade is producing positive results. The commitment of your officers and men, who spend days combing forests to secure our communities, is commendable,” the governor stated.

He praised the gallantry and sacrifice of soldiers involved in ongoing operations, stressing that their efforts have restored confidence and brought relief to residents in previously affected communities.

The governor assured the Army of continued state support, particularly in strengthening Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) established in strategic locations to enhance rapid response and intelligence-driven surveillance.

“We are committed to sustaining and deepening this partnership, especially in supporting the Forward Operating Bases across the state. Kindly convey my appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff for his leadership and dedication to securing our people,” he added.

Addressing concerns over flooding at the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport in Isihor, Okpebholo explained that immediate large-scale intervention may be limited due to the ongoing rainy season and procurement procedures. He, however, referenced the successful state intervention at Ekenwan Barracks, where similar flooding challenges were addressed.

“We will carefully assess the situation in Isihor and determine the most appropriate solution within due process,” he assured.

In his remarks, Major General Shagaya commended the governor for his consistent support and collaboration with the Army, pledging continued military backing for the administration’s development and security agenda.

He reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to sustaining peace, unity, and stability in Edo State and nationwide, while also appealing for government intervention to address persistent flooding affecting the school and surrounding communities in the Isihor and Ugbowo axis.

Beyond security operations, the Army commander sought collaboration with the state government in capacity building, youth engagement initiatives, driver refresher courses, catering services, and firefighting support.

The renewed engagement highlights the Edo State Government’s intensified security strategy aimed at curbing kidnapping, strengthening civil-military relations, and consolidating safety across the state.
