The Egor Local Government Council on Wednesday, January 15, 2026, commemorated the Armed Forces Remembrance Day with a solemn ceremony at the Council Secretariat, paying tribute to the courage, patriotism and sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes.

The event drew dignitaries from across the local government area, including party leaders, members of the Nigerian Legion of Ex-Servicemen, senior council officials, NYSC members, and security personnel from the Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police and other paramilitary agencies.

Addressing attendees, the Chairman of Egor Local Government Council, Hon. Osaro Osa Eribo, described the occasion as a moment of deep reflection, gratitude and national pride. He said the peace, freedom and unity enjoyed by Nigerians today were secured at great cost by men and women who answered the call of duty without hesitation.

According to him, Armed Forces Remembrance Day underscores the fact that Nigeria’s stability was purchased with sweat, blood and, in many cases, the ultimate sacrifice. He paid glowing tribute to soldiers who served in the World Wars, the Nigerian Civil War, international peacekeeping missions and ongoing internal security operations, noting that their bravery remains the foundation of the nation.

Hon. Eribo also expressed solidarity with the widows, children and families of fallen heroes, assuring them that their sacrifices would never be forgotten. He stressed that remembrance should go beyond ceremonial observances and be reflected in compassionate governance and concrete actions.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment, the chairman outlined measures through which the council intends to honour the armed forces, including advocacy and collaboration to support veterans and families of fallen heroes, prioritising social welfare programmes for vulnerable groups, strengthening community security partnerships, and sustained investment in youth empowerment, education and skills acquisition.

He added that the greatest tribute to the fallen heroes is a collective resolve to build a society founded on justice, unity, discipline and selfless service.

The ceremony ended with prayers for the repose of the souls of departed heroes, a call for renewed commitment to national unity and peaceful coexistence, and goodwill messages for the continued protection and strength of Nigeria’s armed forces.

The Egor Local Government Council reaffirmed its respect for those who paid the supreme price for the nation and its determination to build a community worthy of their sacrifice.
