LABOUR PARTY CONCLUDES SUCCESSFUL CONGRESSES ACROSS EDO STATE

The Labour Party (LP) in Edo State has concluded its ward, local government, and state congresses, recording what party leaders described as one of the most peaceful and well-coordinated internal electoral exercises in recent years.

The congresses, which were held in line with the guidelines of the National Working Committee (NWC) led by LP National Chairman, Barr. Julius Abure, commenced with ward congresses on Tuesday, December 2, followed by local government congresses on Thursday, December 4. The exercise climaxed on Saturday, December 6, with the State Congress held at the party’s state secretariat on Ogbelaka Street, Benin City.

A delegation from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), led by the Head of Department, INEC Edo State, monitored the state congress, lending further credibility and transparency to the process.

Supervised by a committee from the LP National Headquarters and chaired by Mr. Paul Omo Okojie, the Electoral Committee conducted the congresses in strict compliance with party rules. Although most aspirants, including the new State Chairman, ran unopposed, the committee ensured full adherence to due process.

After accreditation and voting, the newly elected State Executive Committee was announced. Those elected include:

  • Rt. Hon. Elizabeth Uyimwen Ativie — State Chairman
  • Uwadiae Odigie — Deputy Chairman (South)
  • Dr. Neketon Franklin — Deputy Chairman (Central)
  • Dr. Sam Enaboekpen — Deputy Chairman (North)
  • …and other members of the State Executive Committee.

In her acceptance remarks, the newly elected chairman, Rt. Hon. Ativie, hailed the congress as a unifying milestone for the party in the state. She praised the orderly conduct of delegates and the presence of INEC officials, security agencies and observers, which she said reaffirmed the legitimacy of the Abure-led national leadership.

Ativie also commended party members for their steadfastness, noting that the outcome of the congresses had further neutralised what she called attempts by external forces to create division within the party. She insisted that the successful congresses across Edo State and throughout the country reaffirm the Labour Party as “one united family.”

She further declared that with the nationwide congresses completed, the Labour Party is now fully prepared to contest — and win — the 2027 General Election and the 2028 Edo State Governorship Election.

The Edo State chapter expressed appreciation to delegates, observers, security agencies and supporters whose commitment ensured the success of the exercise.

Signed:

Airen Igbinedion

State Publicity Secretary, Labour Party, Edo State Chapter
