    Edo NIPR Hails Afegbua’s Appointment as Commissioner for Information and Strategy

    The Edo State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has congratulated Prince Kassim Afegbua on his appointment as Commissioner for Information and Strategy by the Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo.

    In a statement signed by the Chapter Chairman, Dr. James-Wisdom Abhulimen, the Institute described Afegbua’s appointment as “a well-deserved recognition of a thoroughbred professional whose track record in public communication and strategic information management stands him out for the role.”

    Dr. Abhulimen noted that Prince Afegbua, a seasoned communicator, journalist, media consultant, and member of the NIPR, has over the years demonstrated professionalism and patriotism through various national assignments, including serving as spokesperson to top government officials and promoting transparent, responsible governance.

    He commended Governor Okpebholo for what he termed “a discerning and progressive choice,” stressing that the appointment of an NIPR-certified practitioner to head the state’s information machinery aligns with global best practices and mirrors similar examples being adopted by some forward-looking governors across Nigeria.

    The statement further expressed confidence that Afegbua would uphold the core values of the Institute — truth, transparency, professionalism, and accountability — in managing the State’s information and communication architecture.

    “His appointment offers renewed hope for effective citizen engagement, enhanced public trust, and strategic communication that will promote the developmental vision of the present administration,” the statement added.

    The Edo NIPR Chapter also urged the new Commissioner to work closely with the Institute to implement communication strategies and policy advocacy initiatives that will strengthen the relationship between government and the people for inclusive development.

    While pledging the Chapter’s full support for the Commissioner, Dr. Abhulimen reiterated the Institute’s commitment to promoting professionalism in public communication across the state.
