Edo Government Revokes Traditional Rulership Appointments in Key Communities

Benin City, The Edo State Executive Council has announced the revocation of several traditional rulership appointments across the state, citing irregularities and security concerns.

In a special announcement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Iklhior, the Council declared the removal of Umoru Inusa Umoru as the Aidenogie of South Ibie in Etsako West Local Government Area. The government stated that the stool was never vacant before his appointment and therefore reinstated Alhaji Aliyu Kelvin Danesi as the rightful Aidenogie.

Similarly, the appointment of Lukman Akemokue as the Okuokpellagbe of Okpella in Etsako East LGA was revoked. According to the statement, Akemokue failed to comply with the Declaration of Customary Law regulating succession to the throne, as outlined in the Bendel State Legal Notice 132 of 1979. The government announced that the process to select a new Okuokpellagbe has now commenced in accordance with extant law.

In another major decision, the State Executive Council approved the immediate removal of Dr. George Oshiapi Egabor as the Okumagbe of Uwano Kingdom in Agenebode, Etsako East LGA. Dr. Egabor had earlier been suspended following rising cases of kidnappings and killings in his domain. A new selection process for his successor is now underway.

The Edo State Government urged all affected communities to remain calm, assuring that it remains committed to peace, unity, and the prosperity of the people.
