Edo State Governor Suspends Healthcare Secretary Over Financial Irregularities
Benin City- In a decisive move that is already making waves across Edo State, Governor Monday Okpebholo has suspended the Executive Secretary of the Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Caulson Osoikhia Oahimire.
The announcement, made on April 29, 2025, through the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq., cited “grave financial and official infractions” as the reason behind the suspension. While specific details of the allegations were not made public, the tone of the statement makes it clear that the infractions are serious enough to warrant immediate action.
What’s even more telling is how swiftly the government moved. A special committee is already being assembled to investigate the allegations. This committee will look into the agency’s operations, financial dealings, and administrative practices before submitting a full report to the Governor.
In the meantime, the most senior staff member in the agency will step in to manage its affairs to avoid disruption in healthcare services across the state.
Governor Okpebholo’s action sends a clear message: this administration is not here to tolerate corruption or mismanagement, especially in a sector as sensitive as healthcare. This move is seen by many as a refreshing commitment to accountability, and it could signal the beginning of more in-depth reforms across key government institutions in Edo State.

Whether this leads to prosecution or reinstatement remains to be seen, but one thing is certain Governor Okpebholo has set a tone, and the people are watching.
