Edo State Government Appoints Dr. Loretta Oduware Ogboro-Okor as Director-General of Diaspora Agency

Benin City, March 10, 2025 – The Edo State Government has announced the appointment of Dr. Loretta Oduware Ogboro-Okor as the new Director-General of the Edo State Diaspora Agency. The announcement was made through a special government release signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq.

Dr. Ogboro-Okor, a highly accomplished UK-trained Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, is known for her extensive expertise in medicine, medical simulation, and humanitarian work. She is also a prolific writer and a Global Goodwill and United Nations Eminent Ambassador.

According to the announcement, Dr. Ogboro-Okor holds degrees from the University of Benin, University of Edinburgh, and Sheffield Hallam University. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Law and Criminology, focusing on Illegal Migration, Human Trafficking, and Contemporary Slavery at Sheffield Hallam University.

Beyond her medical and academic achievements, she has been a dedicated advocate for the Edo diaspora, serving as the leader of the Edo Diaspora Working Group and the Edo State Focus Group Worldwide. Her appointment is expected to strengthen the government’s efforts in engaging with Edo indigenes abroad and addressing challenges related to migration and development.

Governor Monday Okpebholo approved the appointment, underscoring his administration’s commitment to fostering a stronger relationship with Edo’s global community. The Edo State Diaspora Agency plays a crucial role in harnessing the potential of Edo indigenes living abroad for the state’s economic and social development.

With her vast experience and commitment to humanitarian causes, Dr. Ogboro-Okor is expected to bring innovative strategies to the agency, ensuring that the Edo diaspora remains actively connected to the state’s progress.
