BENIN CITY- The Edo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in revenue collection. In a special announcement dated December 23, 2024, the government recalled its earlier ban on unlicensed agents and touts involved in revenue collection. This policy aimed to protect citizens from extortion and prevent leakage in the state’s revenue processes.

The government emphasized that the existing system, developed by the Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) in collaboration with local councils and associations, remains the only authorized framework for revenue collection. The new directive also reinforces a strict prohibition on direct cash collection, mandating that all revenue transactions adhere to the established guidelines.

Security agents have been instructed to enforce the policy, and anyone found violating the directive will face strict consequences. According to the statement, the government is resolute in safeguarding public funds and ensuring fair practices in revenue management.

The announcement, signed by Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq., Secretary to the State Government, underscores the administration’s drive to strengthen governance and build trust with the citizens of Edo State.
