BENIN CITY -Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has unveiled plans to empower traders and revolutionize the agricultural sector as part of his administration’s commitment to boosting economic growth and improving livelihoods across the state.
Speaking at the New Festival Hall of Government House, Benin City, during a congratulatory visit by members of the Edo State Association of Commodity Market Women and Men (ESACM), Governor Okpebholo announced the rollout of an interest-free loan scheme for traders across the three Senatorial Districts, starting in January 2025.
The Governor emphasized that the initiative aims to provide traders with the financial resources needed to grow their businesses without the burden of interest payments, enhancing their capacity to contribute to the State’s economy.
“Early in January 2025, we will commence the provision of interest-free loans for Edo traders. Our traders are the backbone of our economy, and this initiative will empower them, promote growth, and improve the livelihoods of our people,” the Governor stated.
Governor Okpebholo also highlighted plans for a major push in the agricultural sector, announcing that his administration will kickstart a massive mechanized farming initiative in early 2025.
“Agriculture is vital to our State’s economy. Beginning January 2025, Edo State will embark on large-scale mechanized farming. This will boost food production, create jobs, and ensure food security for our people. Even in challenging times, we are committed to ensuring food availability and economic stability,” he said.
The Governor reassured stakeholders of his administration’s dedication to fostering economic prosperity by supporting critical sectors like trading and agriculture, which play pivotal roles in the State’s development.
In response, Mrs. Josephine Ebhaguejeze, President of ESACM, expressed gratitude on behalf of the association, describing the initiatives as transformative steps toward economic revitalization. She pledged the association’s unwavering support and loyalty to the administration.
“This initiative will be a game-changer for traders and farmers in Edo State. We are committed to working with Governor Okpebholo’s administration to drive meaningful economic reforms,” Mrs. Ebhaguejeze stated.
The mechanized farming initiative is expected to attract significant investments and partnerships with agricultural firms, positioning Edo State as a hub for large-scale farming and economic transformation.
As these programs take shape, the State looks forward to a future of enhanced productivity, financial independence for traders, and food security for all its residents.
