Edo Tribunal: APC Youths In Edo Tell IGP To Call PDP Candidate and Supporters To Order

BENIN CITY- The Youth Wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to issue a stern warning to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Asue Igbodaro, regarding the conduct of his supporters during the ongoing election tribunal proceedings.

This urgent plea which was issued earlier today, became necessary amidst rumored report of the PDP’s candidate planning a repeat of last week francas at the tribunal premises when thugs believed to be loyal to him invaded and disrupted the peaceful atmosphere of the court.

The APC youth asserted that any attempts to disrupt the tribunal’s activities by alleged thugs linked to Asue Ighodaro would be met with strong resistance. They emphasized that Edo voters have already made their decision clear at the polls, expressing confidence in the integrity and legitimacy of the election result, stressing that any attempt to wrestle power through the back door would be met with stern resistance.

A member of the youth wing of the ruling APC, Mr. Kelly Okungbowa said, “We are using this medium to call on the IGP to call the PDP candidate to order and let him know that there will be consequences for any unruly action taken. We want to appeal to him to ensure that the rule of law is upheld and to protect the tribunal’s proceedings from any unruly behavior”.

Speaking also, a youth leader of the party, Mr Monday Irabor and Adams Ehi stressed that the PDP should be careful so as not to disrupt the peace in the state noting that, as the ruling party, they will not sit back and watch some bitter elements disrupt the peace and progress already being experienced in the state since the swearing in of Governor Monday Okpebholo.

Mr Irabor said, “Our democracy thrives on order and respect for judicial processes. We believe in our electoral choice and will not stand by while intimidation tactics are employed against it. We urged the PDP and its candidate to toil the path of peace in their demands and allow the court to determine their fate. “These warnings reflect a growing concern among APC members about potential violence or disruptions as the tribunal examines evidence brought forth by both parties.

The APC youth reiterated their commitment to a peaceful and fair electoral process and their readiness to defend the democratic rights of Edo citizens. As the situation unfolds, both the APC and PDP are urged to maintain civility and respect for the legal framework governing elections in Nigeria, ensuring that the tribunal function is without interference. The Edo electorate’s voice, they insist, must be heard and respected.
